Other lets you send canned messages to one person

If you regularly message someone with updates like you’re heading home or stuck in traffic, the Other app for iOS will make it easier for you. It’s a bit like a launcher for messaging but you just do it for another person (perhaps your spouse). It allows you to create canned messages that you can send through the iPhones Messages app. If you use one of the newer iPhones, you can even have a 3D Touch shortcut for this on your home screen. Other also comes with a share extension, letting you send URLs to this person with just a few taps.

Twitter now classified as a ‘news’ app on the Apple App Store

Twitter is no longer a social network. Or at least it’s no longer classified as one on the Apple App Store. It’s migrated from “social networking” to “news” on the app store where it now sits on top in the top free apps chart. On the Google Play store, though, it still remains under the “social” label. The switch is seen as a reaction to the social network lagging behind competitors like Facebook in the social networking category. This’ll perhaps bring attention to the app more and it highlights Twitter’s differentiator from its rivals with its real-time breaking news updates. Twitter’s still suffering from sluggish user growth so any approach to get more eyeballs and users on its platform is welcome.

The change, though, also highlights Apple’s issues with making apps more discoverable. App developers are said to be frustrated with the tech giant and discoverability issues on the platform. Even with the use of search, it’ll take a while to find relevant apps. Apple’s been making changes for this but it still has more work to do in this respect.

Snapchat on iOS lets you swap faces with any photo in your camera roll

Snapchat’s new update for its iOS apps brings a nifty new feature we’ll probably see people playing around with a lot. The app will let you face swap with any photo in your camera roll. When you select the face swap button in the masking features, you’ll see a second face swap button appear next to the original. This purple button has a little camera icon to let you swap with a photo from your camera roll.

The latest update also brings with it the ability to replay a snap one more time for free. Snapchat used to charge $0.99 for this feature. But they seem to have found a different way to make a quick buck. You can’t purchase any more extra replays from the app either. No word yet when the new feature will make its way to Android but we should hear from them soon.

Google integrating Goals feature in Calendar starting today

Google is expanding the functionality of their Calendar App by adding a new Goals feature on mobile. According to Google, "Goals is a tool that makes it easier to find the time to do the things that really matter to you.  Whether it’s running, practicing yoga or learning a new language—you can now add a personal goal—like “run 3 times a week”—and Calendar will help you find the time and stick to it."

To set a goal (like “Work out more”), simply answer a few questions (like “How often?” and “Best time?”), and you’re all set. From there Calendar will look at your schedule and find the best windows to pencil in time for that goal.

Calendar can help you adjust in a number of important ways. For example, Calendar will automatically reschedule if you add another event that's a direct conflict with a goal. You can also can defer a goal at any time, and Calendar will make time for it later. To get started, download the Google Calendar app for Android or iPhone, and set your first goal.
