MWC 2026: Introducing the Leica Leitzphone by Xiaomi

Source: Xiaomi

One of Xiaomi's major announcements at Mobile World Congress 2026 in Barcelona, Spain, involves a partnership with premium camera maker Leica. The collaboration brought to the international market the new Leica Leitzphone, which is basically the global version of the Xiaomi 17 Ultra Leica Edition, a China-only device.

One of the key differences between the Chinese version is its battery size, with the exclusive model in China carrying a massive 6,800mAh battery, while the international Leitzphone has a 6,000mAh battery. The Leitzphone is designed to look and feel like a Leica camera, so it sports a mechanical camera ring that you can rotate to manually adjust zoom or exposure.

Leica M11-P: A camera that can prove your photos are real

Leica

Leica has launched a new camera that aims to ensure the authenticity of photos. The Leica M11-P is a high-end rangefinder camera that can cryptographically sign each image using Adobe’s Content Authenticity Initiative (CAI). This feature allows users to verify the origin and integrity of their photos online.

The M11-P is based on the M11, a 60-megapixel manual focus camera that was released earlier this year. The M11-P has some subtle differences, such as a sapphire crystal LCD cover, an engraved logo instead of a red dot, and 256GB of internal storage. It also comes with a new Summicron-M 28mm f/2 ASPH. lens that has improved close-focusing capabilities.

Leica partners with Xiaomi to release a co-branded phone in July

Xiaomi

The rumours have just been confirmed. Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi and Leica have entered a "long-term strategic cooperation," which includes a launch of a new flagship smartphone in July 2022. It's the latest mobile imaging collaboration for Leica after partnerships with Sharp, Panasonic, and Huawei. Xiaomi hasn't revealed much about the upcoming device. But we could probably expect it to have the new Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chip and some imaging filters from Leica's side. According to Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun, the cooperation is meant to "provide a strong boost to Xiaomi's imaging strategy."
