Review: Google Nexus 6

By Gadjo Cardenas Sevilla

One of the most confounding products to come out of Google’s Nexus program, the Nexus 6 leapfrogs the Nexus 5 in terms of size, weight and pricing, while serving as the second official vessel of Google’s next generation Android Lollipop OS.

There was a time when purchasing a Nexus device meant getting the very latest software and hardware on an affordable yet high-spec device. Buying into the Google Nexus ecosystem was like purchasing the future months before it happened and I, like thousands of other phone enthusiasts, often bought first and asked questions later when it came to these Nexus branded smartphones.

Motorola's sale to Lenovo has been finalized

Just one day after launching its Nexus 6 device for former owner Google, Motorola is officially a part of Lenovo which now might be the third largest phone maker in the world. Lenovo will let Motorola do its thing as a wholly-owned subsidiary and will absorb Moto's employees.

“Today we achieved a historic milestone for Lenovo and for Motorola – and together we are ready to compete, grow and win in the global smartphone market. Last year’s most surprising smartphone was the Google-owned Motorola Moto X. A mid-range smartphone in terms of specs, it innovated various areas and became a favourite of many reviewers as well as loyal fans who preferred it to the Nexus 5 as the closest thing to a Pure Android device.

Great design, touchless control, gesture-enabled camera and for lucky US-based users, a fully customizable palette of colours, textures, capacities and even startup screens. The Moto X was the blueprint that was used to create the Moto G (Moto’s white knight) and the Moto E; the original Moto X remains one of 2013’s best non-superphone devices. Let's find out how the new one fares.
