Nokia considers the Lumia 2520 as the mullet of tablets

Nokia has just released what could be one of the strangest but somewhat fitting ads for its Lumia 2520 tablet. The Finnish brand is likening the Lumia 2520 as a “work and play” device, which is much like the mullet hairstyle of decades past a.k.a. business in front and party at the back. Watch the clip above and judge for yourself whether it’s weird or a stroke of genius.

New Apple patent focuses on Lytro-like refocusable camera

The Lytro camera was an exciting and novel device that allowed photographers and people viewing images online to focus their digital images after they were taken. Expensive and hard to find, the Lytro camera really failed to turn a great idea into a profitable business. Apple has recently secured  a patent for a similar refocusable camera that might give future iPhones the ability to shoot images and refocus later on depending on what aspect they'd like to highlight. Nokia's Lumia 1020 already has a similar application called Refocus which works very much the same way (i.e. images posted online can be refocused by viewers). Since iPhones have consistently been among the most used cameras, this feature will expand their functionality. Hope they make it to market sooner rather than later.

Nokia Lumia sales on upswing, 8.8 million units sold in Q3 2013

There's definitely renewed interest in Nokia and you can credit this to some stellar new hardware, software and a huge marketing push behind the new products. Espoo, Finland's pride saw smartphone sales in North America increase by almost 400 per cent to 1.4 million units, a spike from just 0.3 million from Q3 last year. Nokia's sold 36.1 million Lumias in total since it made the move from burning platform to Windows a few years ago.

You can credit this surge is smartphone sales to a well-rounded lineup of devices (with more coming). International sales weren't spectacular, but there's always a chance of a ripple effect once cool new products generate interest in the rest of the world.
