OnePlus 2 isn’t getting the Android Nougat update

After saying before that OnePlus 2 was getting Android Nougat update, unfortunately OnePlus is taking it back now. The news comes after OnePlus previously said there would be 24-month update support and that they would be bringing it to the operating system. There seems to be a lack of communication on part of the company as one OnePlus moderator was still writing about the update coming in their forum as recently as the end of May.

When asked what the reason was for the update not arriving, OnePlus said, “When we built the OnePlus 2 we didn’t have the software infrastructure team in place we do now.” This places the blame at the convergence of the Hydrogen and Oxygen teams for the lack of the update. All of this just reminds us that OEMs have to stop promising things that they can’t deliver in the end.

OnePlus all but shows what the OnePlus 5 looks like (at least from the back)

OnePlus isn’t a company that keeps its secrets that close to the chest. Back when the OnePlus 2 was announced, they revealed the new features of the phone ahead of its launch. So, when a leaked image of the OnePlus 5’s top half of its rear shows up, the company releases a high-resolution version of the image that shows the dual-camera setup, the mute switch, and what it’ll look like on top. OnePlus attaches to the image the tagline “Dual Camera. Clearer Photos.” And we have to say it looks eerily similar to the new iPhones. OnePlus is unveiling its new flagship on June 20 at 12 p.m. EDT.

OnePlus 5 tipped to be revealed on June 15

OnePlus 5 has been rumoured for quite a while now and we might be seeing it in two weeks or so—if the leaked posters are real, that is. A user of Chinese microblogging Weibo posted an image of a supposed OnePlus event happening on June 15th at 15:00 local time. While the words OnePlus 5 aren’t mentioned, it has been talked about enough in the past few months that it might be a safe assumption. However, there isn’t a guarantee yet of the veracity of this poster so it’s best to manage your expectations.

What is known about the upcoming OnePlus flagship is it’ll be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor, the main camera will be made with DxOMark, and it’ll have a fingerprint sensor on the front as well as retain the 3.5mm audio jack.

OnePlus confirms summer launch for the OnePlus 5

Leaked mockup of the OnePlus 5

The next OnePlus smartphone is making its debut this summer. Not much is known about the OnePlus 5 but leaks have suggested it’ll carry a dual-camera setup and like other devices from the Chinese company, it’ll have high-end specs, too. If you’re wondering why OnePlus is skipping over the number four after last launching the OnePlus 3T, then that’s because the number four is considered an unlucky number in China. It is also coincidental that the OnePlus 5 is the fifth device from the brand. However, that supposedly didn’t go into considering the name of the device. What does come into play is that number five is the jersey of former NBA player Robert Horry, who a number of OnePlus employees are a fan of. (Fun fact: They even have two paintings of Robert Horry hanging in their Shenzhen office). Whether that fun fact appeals to you or not, what we’re certain of is we’re pretty excited to see what OnePlus is cooking up.
