CES 2013: Roku beefs up content deals, 700 channels now available in US

Roku has announced more content partnerships here at CES 2013 in Las Vegas. New channels for US-based Roku users include Blockbuster On Demand, Fox Now, PBS, Vevo, Syfy, and Dailymotion. Roku has also locked in Amazon's Cloud Player, Spotify and iHeartRadio which are unlikely to be offered in Canada. This now brings Roku's channel lineup to around 700 so even if Canadian customers get a franction of that number, it is still significant amount of streaming content. Roku can also run apps like the Time Warner Cable app (US-only) that effectively turns it into a cable box, pretty cool.

Video: Sony's Internet Player with Google TV demoed, available in August

Earlier today, Sony launched the first Canadian GoogleTV with their new Internet Player. Some of the cooler features include a new remote control with a trackpad and a touch keyboard. The Internet Player, which will sell for $200 and is available for pre-orders, will start shipping in mid-August. Aside from featuring Google Apps and various types of streaming content, it will also have access to the Chrome browser as well as some Google games. 

Google TV comes to Canada via Sony Internet Player for $200

Sony Canada just announced availability and pricing of the NSZ-GS7, Sony Internet Player with Google TV, originally introduced in January at CES 2012.  This is the long awaited  Google TV device, the Sony Internet Player will be available at retailers nationwide in August 2012, priced at $199.99. Pre-orders begin on June 27, 2012 at Sony’s website at http://store.sony.ca/internetplayer . Roku 2 XD and 2 XS officially launched in Canada

Roku, the leading streaming platform in the U.S. today announced the official launch of its products in Canada. Two Roku streaming player models – the Roku 2 XD and the Roku 2 XS – are available for purchase in Canada starting today. The Roku 2 XD and the Roku 2 XS streaming players have suggested retail prices of CAD 89.99 and CAD 109.99, respectively.
