Samsung has released the October 2023 security update for the Galaxy S21 series, following the Galaxy S22 and S23. The update, which has firmware version G998WVLS9EWI6 in Canada, is currently available in the country and the US and will soon reach other markets.

The October 2023 security patch fixes many security issues in Android and Samsung’s One UI software. Google and Samsung developed the fixes for their respective products. Samsung tipped to offer 4 OS updates to newer devices

Source: Samsung

If the reports are accurate, Samsung Galaxy owners—at least those with the relatively newer devices—will get an extra year of major operating system updates and five years of security patches. The company will reportedly extend its Android update policy from three releases to four.

Compared to Apple's updates, the iPhones typically get at least six years' worth of upgrades. Still, this is good news for those planning to get the Samsung Galaxy S22 and Galaxy Tab S8 devices, which the company is expected to launch at tomorrow's Unpacked event. Other Samsung devices reportedly getting this upgrade include the Galaxy S21 series and the Galaxy Z Flip3 and Fold3 devices.

Razer sells case for the Samsung Galaxy S21 series

Razer Arctech Pro (Source: Razer)

This may or may not be news for you, but Razer makes cases for flagship Samsung and Apple phones. So, for the recently launched Galaxy S21 series, Razer launches its Arctech Pro case. As expected, it's a gaming-oriented casing that claims to use special Thermaphene cooling technology for more efficient heat dissipation from the phone. It also has an anti-bacterial coating to prevent bacteria from growing in the case.

With reinforced side panels, Razer claims this case is drop-certified. It can also keep scratches at bay. The company points out that the case will work seamlessly with 5G connectivity, meaning it won't block next-gen speeds. The Razer Arctech Pro retails for $59.99 and has versions for all of the new Galaxy S21 phones. But it's currently listed as out of stock on Razer's site.

Samsung Galaxy S21 smartphone will find and unlock new cars from Audi, BMW, Ford, and Genesis

One of the more exciting functionality announcement from Samsung's Galaxy S21 line of smartphones is that they will be able to use Ultra Wide Band Bluetooth to find and unlock new vehicles from Audi, BMW, Ford and Genesis. Samsung is expanding its ecosystem by partnering with carmakers to add the convenience so smartphone owners can access and unlock upcoming vehicles.

“With precise distance calculation, Samsung’s UWB-enabled digital key sends short pulses between the mobile device and the paired car, unlocking the door once you reach it,” Samsung explained. “Without UWB, users will be able to use their compatible smartphones as a car key through NFC.” Models like the Galaxy S21 Plus, Galaxy S21 Ultra, and Galaxy Note 20 Ultra support UWB for finer and more accurate location tracking. Turning smartphones into digital key fobs can be very convenient since car owners can possibly share access to their vehicles without turning over their real keys. The feature is expected to roll out later this year pending some standardization.
