Google's Moto X to launch on August 1 at a NYC event

So, Googlerola is finally ready to take the wraps off the Moto X Smartphone. The date is August 1st and the lstage is set in New York City. What we know so far is that that the Moto X will be built in the USA and will offer various customization options starting with, but not limited to, the colours and possibly the material or finish of the case.  We also know from the leaked video earlier this week that it will have an always-on voice command and search function. It has been a while since Motorola ruled the roost of the Android smartphone space and it will be interesting to see if they can climb right back to the top with Google’s steady, guiding hand.

BlackBerry intros Q5 smartphone for emerging markets

BlackBerry announced their third BB10 handset at BlackBerry Live in Orlando today. The budget friendly Q5 is expected to be their bet on the emerging markets as well as the youthful and fun sector that can't afford the $700 no contract price of the recently released Q10. The Q5 offers a less premium QWERTY keyboard BlackBerry 10 handset  for the rest of us and while it might not have all the features of the flagship Q10, it is certain to be more than enough to replace those ageing BlackBerry Torch and Curve models of yesteryear. No date or pricing for Canada has been announced.  Hit jump for the full PR from BlackBerry.
