Threads is getting an edit button soon

Richard Lawler / The Verge

Meta is bringing an edit button to Threads. And you don't have to pay for it. CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced it'll give you the option to edit your posts five minutes after they're published. The posts will have a little icon next to the timestamp to show you that it's been edited. However, unlike with X (formerly Twitter), you won't see an edit history. That means you won't see what the original post was. But it's good to see Meta rolling this out without putting it behind a paywall. And it took them a few months instead of years. Twitter added an edit feature as a perk for its formerly named Twitter Blue paid subscription service.

Zuckerberg also announced that Voice Threads is coming to the service. This will let you record posts for the service. And as The Verge describes it, your voice will play while the text of what's being said is highlighted.

Threads gets quoting and notifications features from Meta

One of the Threads features missing at launch was the ability to quote other people’s posts, similar to a retweet on X/Twitter. Finally, you can quote posts by clicking on the repost icon at the bottom of a post and choosing the “Quote” option. It's available on desktop now. This allows you to add your own commentary to someone else’s thread.

Threads gets reposts on Following feed, profile pages

Meta announced it is adding a new feature to its Threads app: reposts. It is coming to your Following feed and your profile page. Reposts allow users to share threads from other users on their accounts. The company said it made this decision based on user feedback. Instagram head Adam Mosseri revealed the feature in a Threads post. The reposts tab may not be visible in your app yet, but it can be seen on the browser version of your Threads profile. (There is no Threads web version yet.)

Threads to get search and web features in the next few weeks, says Zuckerberg

Meta’s Twitter clone, Threads, still shows a spinning galaxy as a placeholder when you check out its web version (Threads.net), but that won’t last long, according to a post on the platform from CEO Mark Zuckerberg.

He says that search and web features are coming soon and praises the team for their fast delivery. Meta launched Threads as a quick response to Twitter’s troubles, and it seems to have paid off. Threads reached 100 million signups faster than any other consumer software product ever. However, more than half of those users didn’t come back, and Meta is trying to add more features to keep them engaged.
