Twitter begins 'unmention' test

Source: Twitter

After announcing the feature almost 10 months ago, Twitter is ready to start testing its "unmention" feature, which Mashable aptly calls the "ghosting" feature. It allows you to "remove yourself from conversations" you don't want to be part of. This might get annoying or overwhelming when you get mentioned in a tweet where tons of people reply and you aren't interested in being part of the conversation.

In theory, this feature will untag you from the tweet you want to be removed from. It doesn't look like you'll be taken out of the tweet itself, but it'll break the link functionality. So, it won't redirect to you. Twitter is testing out the feature with some users on the Web. It won't say how many people they're testing it with, but if you have it, let us know your thoughts!

Twitter is finally testing out an Edit button

After years of many users asking for it, Twitter is teasing that it's working on an Edit button. The company says it's been working on the feature since "last year" and previewed what it will look like. The option is kept within the three-dot menu in a tweet. It's unclear how the feature will work. All we know is that it'll give you the option to edit a tweet after it has been posted.

Twitter plans to roll it out first through Twitter Blue Labs, which offers beta features to Twitter Blue subscribers. The company plans to "learn what works, what doesn't, and what's possible" before bringing the option to everyone.

Twitter tests option to let two accounts co-author tweets

Source: Alessandro Paluzzi

Twitter has confirmed it's trying a new feature to let two accounts co-author one tweet. App researcher Alessandro Paluzzi has posted evidence of this feature since at least December. But recent development shows an official-looking dialogue box from Twitter about how the feature works. The concept is similar to what Instagram launched last year. Attaching two users two a tweet can be helpful for things like brand partnerships, influencer campaigns, or just sharing credit for a funny post.

Based on the leaked screenshots, you'll only be able to invite public accounts that follow you to co-author a tweet. These users will need to accept your invitation. And when published, Twitter will share the tweet with followers of both accounts. Both of your avatars will be displayed at the top of the post. As The Verge pointed out, there are hopefully safeguards to prevent being hit by requests to co-author spam tweets.

Twitter experiments with audio clip sharing from Spaces audio

Source: Twitter

Twitter is trying out a new feature for Twitter Spaces that will allow hosts to share snippets from their conversations. A small number of hosts on iOS already have access to the feature, but it will come to Android and the web in the future. Hosts can clip up to 30 seconds of audio, which they can then tweet out.

A missed opportunity might be offering the option to listeners, too. It'll be one way to draw fresh eyes into your favourite accounts and their Spaces. But since the feature is still in testing, Twitter might include that in the future.
