Google now shows tweets in desktop search results

A few months back Google started adding recent and relevant tweets to your searches on mobile. This time, Google's bringing that feature to desktop search results as well. If you type in a person and the word Twitter, you might see their recent tweets. But if you type in something more general like NASA Twitter, for example, you'll get both tweets from NASA's official Twitter account and tweets from other users talking about the space agency. This new feature should be rolling out to all users.

Twitter says goodbye to 140 character limit for Direct Messages

Annoyed that you can only use 140 characters at a time when you send Direct Messages or DMs on Twitter? Now, you get 10,000 characters as the company lifted the limitation for iOS, Android, Mac, Tweetdeck, and on Twitter.com. The move can be seen as a way for the company to compete with direct messaging services of the likes of Facebook and WhatsApp.

Twitter rolls out landscape mode for Apple iPhone 6 Plus

Helping Apple iPhone 6 Plus users see more Twitter on their screen, the social network adds a landscape mode to the super-sized iPhone’s Twitter app. Not only do you see more of the user interface at once. There is also a new compose window and threaded conversation design. The new UI looks rather similar to how Twitter looks like on the iPad. No word yet if Twitter plans to introduce this to the other iPhone models.

Twitter experiments with News tab

Twitter continues to try out new features in hopes to get more people to use their social network. This time around, they introduce a new Trending News tab to show iOS and Android users the trending news on the app. When you tap on a news item, it shows you an image, block of text and link to the source. At the same time, it shows tweets from other publishers and Twitter users related to the item. The items here are populated algorithmically. Since it’s an experiment though, we’re not sure if it’ll be a permanent feature.
