Louis Vuitton’s newest smartwatch packs in the latest Snapdragon Wear processor

Louis Vuitton updates its premium smartwatch with new internals. The new LV Tambour Horizon packs in the newest Snapdragon Wear 3100 processor, which Qualcomm developed with Google for Wear OS. One of the major things this brings to the smartwatch is better battery life, giving users one full day and up to five more days if they’re just displaying time. It also has a better display and a new 24-hour ring with a day/night indicator across the ring. Its rich ambient mode can display things like time and information such as heart rate or step count while making sure it uses less power than the watch would if it was fully active. The LV Tambour Horizon also has a new white ceramic option. No word on pricing or availability just yet but with the old version going for US$2,490, you can expect this to come with an exorbitant price tag.

New Wear OS update brings battery-saving features

Google is bringing some new features we’re more than happy to welcome to its Wear OS platform. The new “H update,” as the company calls it, is bringing important things like a new Battery Saver Mode, which will kick in automatically when it falls below 10 percent. Your Wear OS smartwatch will also fall into “deep sleep” if it hasn’t been worn for 30 minutes. There’s also a new “Smart App Resume” feature that will keep your place in Watch Apps if you leave them and then decide to come back. And there will also be a new two-step power off so you don’t have to dig through the power menu in the settings.

Wear OS team says the update will be rolling out to users over the coming months but cautions that some wearables might not be immediately eligible for the update. The smartwatch manufacturers will determine when to roll this out and functionality may vary by device.

Fossil brings Google Pay, GPS, and heart-rate tracking to new smartwatches

Fossil just released the fourth-generation of its Fossil Q lineup and offers some features other traditional-looking smartwatches don’t have yet. The new Fossil Q line comes with Google Pay support, heart-rate monitor, and standalone GPS. The Q Venture HR and Q Explorist HR are priced between $335 and $365 and come with different band and color options. Some are available for pre-order, while others are on sale already over at Fossil’s site.

The Q Venture HR comes with a 40mm stainless steel casing, while the Explorist HR has a larger 45mm case. And while you get new features, unfortunately, you’re stuck with the two-year-old Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 2100 chip. If that doesn’t bother you and you still want to try out a Wear OS watch, you can check these out now.

Google updates Wear OS to speed up Google Pay, improve appointment design, fix bugs

Google’s latest update for Wear OS offers some useful features for its users. One of the major updates include improving speeds for Google Pay, right down to opening up the app. Another new feature is a new “glanceable design” for appointments and events, which as 9to5Google points out is already something Wear OS does. The update we presume is an improvement on this feature’s user interface, making these reminders easier to read. The last major thing coming with this update is a time zone sync bug fix. Not much has been reported about this but it must be a major enough issue for Google to release a fix for it. This update is now out on Google Play for all users.
