YouTube rumoured to be developing paid video subscription service

Hoping to take on the likes of Hulu and Vimeo, YouTube might be adding another paywall for its service. This time around, they’re focusing on a video on demand service. According to a report from Variety, this service will reportedly offer ad-free streaming of certain content, perhaps from some of the site’s biggest stars under its YouTube Originals umbrella. Not much is known about this report but the rumour started from an unnamed executive of a company that partners with YouTube to produce video content.

YouTube will neither confirm nor deny the report at the moment. But perhaps this is a way to help keep their creators in house and to help boost their bottom line.

YouTube now lets you upload interactive 360-degree videos

If you own a camera that can capture 360-degree videos, now you have an easier way to share your content. YouTube now lets you upload these videos to your channel. If you watch it through Chrome (through youtube.com or through embedded videos on the browser or the YouTube Android app you can even pan around to video the different angles on your mobile devices or click the scroll wheel on your desktop.

However, when you upload a file, you’ll need to run a certain script to tack on a particular metadata to make sure that it runs as a 360-degree video. It should be automatic in the future but for now you’ll have to do it. If you want to check out the 360-degree clips, you can see a sample video above.

YouTube on Android lets you trim your videos before you upload

If you wanted to upload a video from your Android device to YouTube before, you would need to upload the entire clip. Now, YouTube is making it easier for you to take out that awkward beginning or ending pre-upload. You can now trim videos on the Android version of the app. It features two control points and you can trim almost up to 1/30^th of a second. Just hold down on either of the control points and it’ll zoom in for you and let you trim almost frame by frame. It isn’t available yet on the iOS version of the app but we should be seeing that in the future.

This month YouTube turns 10 and what better way to celebrate that then to look at some of the best viral videos to ever grace the streaming site.
