Videotron becomes first Canadian carrier to enable toll-free international calling over Wi-Fi

Videotron  is the first Canadian carrier to enable its customers to place toll-free calls over Wi-Fi to a local number or to Canada in more than a hundred countries1. Videotron’s new Wi-Fi Calling service lets eligible mobile customers2 connect to a Wi-Fi network to make voice calls and send text messages, at home and abroad.

Sony Mobile and Bell promise increased Gigabit LTE speeds on Xperia XZ2 devices

Sony and Bel say Canadians will be able to experience the next generation of network speeds with this ground-breaking smartphone starting in late spring of this year. While this is not 5G, it represents the fastest performance on 4G LTE networks where hardware supports it.

Samsung Canada reveals Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ flagship smartphones, touts revolutionary dual-aperture camera

Samsung revealed the Galaxy S9 and S9+ flagship devices at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain. Adhering to the look and design introduced last year on the Galaxy S8 and Note 8 devices, the Korean electronics giant has focused instead on catching up on features that are available on the iPhone X as well as enhancing its key differentiators such as the camera and the ability to act as a PC replacement.

Samsung says the latest Galaxy S9 has a revolutionary camera with a Dual Aperture featuring F1.5 and F2.4 modes. Installed on the rear camera (S9)/rear wide camera (S9+, stereo speakers tuned by AKG, and a refined Infinity Display. Other features include a Super Slow-Mo mode, the ability to create emoji based on your face and updated Bixby vision. Both devices are available for pre-order today.

Review: Acer Windows Mixed Reality Headset and Controller

The VR headsets of one or two years ago like the Oculus and the HTC Vive did deliver on the promise of bringing VR to consumers but at a steep price as well as high-end hardware requirements. With the entry of Microsoft into VR, using tech and knowledge coming from its HoloLens solution, makes enjoying VR more affordable.

Microsoft showed off the future of Windows as a holographic OS with HoloLens which put the desktop in virtual and real space. HoloLens was unfortunately too expensive for mass production and while it seems to be making waves in enterprise and special situations, there’s no consumer version available.

Instead, Microsoft created the Windows Mixed Reality VR standard, packaged it as part of Windows 10 Fall Creators Update and makes it accessible to anyone running Windows on the minimum specs (8th Intel Generation Core Processor). Hit jump for my immersion into WMR.
