More than 30 community colleges in the US to offer Apple app development with Swift

Apple says that App Development with Swift curriculum will now be offered in more than 30 community college systems across the Unites States in the 2017-2018 school year, providing opportunities to millions of students to build apps that will prepare them for careers in software development and information technology.

The Austin Community College District (ACC), one of the nation’s largest higher learning institutions, will begin offering the course to its 74,000 students this fall.

Created by engineers and educators at Apple, the full-year App Development with Swift course teaches students how to build apps using Swift, an open source programming language that emphasizes safety, performance and modern software design patterns. The course takes students with no programming experience and enables them to build fully-functional apps of their own design.

Apple's next data centre in Iowa will run on 100 per cent renewable energy

Services like iMessae, Siri, App Store and iCloud make up some of the most profitable aspects of Apple's business and large data centres are what power these services.

Apple today announced plans to build a 400,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art data center in Waukee, Iowa, to better serve North American users of iMessage, Siri, the App Store and other Apple services. Like all Apple data centers, the new facility will run entirely on renewable energy from day one.

Apple’s investment of $1.3 billion will create over 550 construction and operations jobs in the Des Moines area, and the company is contributing up to $100 million to a newly created Public Improvement Fund dedicated to community development and infrastructure around Waukee.

Review: Tile Pro Sport smart tracker

By Gadjo Cardenas Sevilla

As someone who often misplaces my car and house keys as well as my smartphone, the ability to quickly find these specially when I'm running late for a meeting is priceless. I've tried some bluetooth trackers in the past, but found them to be kludgy and hard to use. This was because the hardware wasn't durable enough or the apps were lacking in functionality.

The Tile system has always intrigued me and I immediately put the Tile Pro Sport to good use the day I got my review unit. I was cleaning my apartment and moving boxes and misplaced my house keys just as I needed to rush out for some errands. Usually it would take a good 10-15 minutes for me to retrace my steps and find my keys but thanks to the Tile app, I was able to trigger the alarm and quickly find my keys (they were under my cat) by following the melodic alert sound.

Samsung stresses improved battery safety during Galaxy Note8 launch event

By Gadjo Cardenas Sevilla

In case you missed it, Samsung has launched a successor to the doomed Galaxy Note7 phablet. The Galaxy Note8, an enormous 6.3-inch smartphone featuring all the latest Samsung technologies, is coming on September 15 and will be sold in Canada through Bell, Eastlink, Freedom, MTS, Rogers, Sasktel, Telus and Videotron. Off contract price is a whopping $1,200.00! Making this the most expensive Samsung handset in recent memory.

The big question many consumers have is, how safe is the Note8 given its predecessor's battery defects and subsequent $5.3 billion dollar recall. Samsung seems to have addressed this during today's launch.

"Samsung continues to uphold its commitment to lead the industry in battery safety. The Galaxy Note8’s battery has undergone our Samsung 8-point battery check," Samsung explained.
