Microsoft outs foldable keyboard for mobile devices

Helping out with portability, Microsoft just unveiled a foldable version of its universal keyboard for mobile devices. The Universal Foldable Keyboard is like the original and it works with iOS, Android, and Windows. It uses Bluetooth connectivity to work with a plethora of devices. And thanks to magnets, you just have to fold it up to stash it away in your bag. No details on battery life but it charges via micro USB.

What’s missing from this accessory? There is no dedicated Windows key, no function keys (except for the ones for audio controls, search, etc.), and there is no stand for your device either. But if portability is your biggest concern, this might be a good accessory for you.

Podo takes on the selfie stick with a smartphone-controlled camera

Don’t want to be the person that whips out a selfie stick? Here’s an alternative for you. Podo has a Kickstarter project for a brightly-colored, remotely-activated camera that can stick to most solid surfaces. It does this with a combination of a suction pad that’s exposed when you rotate a replaceable flap and a strong magnet. You can clean the pad with water to make the stickiness come back.

The boxy camera works on both iOS and Android and links up to them via Bluetooth. It can take stills, videos, GIFs, and time lapse clips. You just need to double tap the device to turn it on and off. And you don’t have to worry about photo orientation; your shots will be auto-orientated thanks to the built-in accelerometer. A limited number of early backers will get the device for US$79 but for everyone else it’ll be available for $89. The campaign will end in April and they will start shipping the device in August. The retail version will go for $99 and will be out later this year.

Apple Watch tipped to be coming with Power Reserve mode

The Apple Watch event is upon us and rumours surrounding the company’s first wearable. This time, there is reportedly a new low-energy mode for the smartwatch that will keep it running even if the battery is running low. The Power Reserve mode is said to allow you to see the time. However, you won’t be able to use any of the other functions of the Apple Watch. But at least the watch can still perform one of its key features even if it has hardly any juice left.

Ikea to come out with new furniture to charge your phones

Ikea is going to make it easier for you to charge your smartphones with new furniture that come integrated with Qi wireless device. The Swedish furniture brand partnered with Wireless Power Consortium to make this possible. The line will include lamps, bedside tables, and even an Ikea-designed pad so you can stick Qi charging to any surface. But again, you must check if your device is compatible with WPC’s Qi charging standard. Not all phones work with that.
