Google taps search to recommend apps

Helping out developers to get more eyes on their apps, Google is using its search engine to suggest apps to users. If you type something in search, they'll prompt you to install a certain app that can help fulfill the need or at least assist you with the search term. Once you install the app, you'll be redirected in the app to what you wanted to do on the web. For example, you're searching for a restaurant, Google might recommend OpenTable for you. Once installed, you'll be redirected to the reservation page of said restaurant. Developers can check out how they can be part of this implementation in the link below.

Yelp adds Apple Watch integration

Yelp users who wonder if the app was coming to the Apple Watch don't have to wonder for too long. The app has been updated to add Apple Watch support. It works mostly like the standalone app. You can look for places to eat at and see how far away they are. You'll even get to see star ratings and reviews as well as the hours they operate. There's even a "Hot & New" button to show you the trending places in the area. The update is already live but we can't say the same about the Apple Watch coming your way just yet.

Google redesigns Chrome OS launcher

If you're an early adopter of Chrome OS, this might not come as a surprise for you. But now Google has finally released the redesigned Chrome OS as a stable update for all users. It features a number of Material Design elements. They also introduce a new typeface as well as new look for the Files app and an update of the calculator app. Google has also added support for password-protected zip files. And the customary bug fixes and security revisions have also been added.

Google introduces certification program for Cardboard clones

Google Cardboard is an affordable way to experience virtual reality for the first time. It’s no wonder that clones have started to crop up. Google wants to rein them in or legitimize them with a new certification program. They want to unify the clone headsets and have them working under the badge “Works With Google Cardboard.” They will set guidelines for it and look over your headset so that they can assure that the clone headset will work with all Cardboard software. Seems like a good deal for developers we have to say.
