HTC tipped to take on GoPro cameras

While we thought HTC was going to introduce a new selfie-centric camera at their upcoming event, it would seem the brand has plans to enter a new market. HTC is reportedly introducing a “lifestyle” camera that will go against GoPro market. HTC is apparently behind the website and Twitter account teasing what is called the ReCamera. The site shows a video loop of people doing various activities such as dancing, swimming, and biking. We just have a bit more time to wait before we find out what the Double Exposure event is. And if this would really have HTC fully entering the photography space.

Instagram brings Hyperlapse selfies to iOS

Instagram is adding a new feature to its Hyperlapse camera on iOS: taking drawn-out selfies. If you’ve always thought it was a good idea to take shots of yourself with a moving background, this new feature might appeal to you. Some of Instagram’s suggestions include, capturing yourself walking down the street (which we think might be a bit silly and dangerous) or while getting a new haircut, or even while you jump on a trampoline). And of course you can share your creations on Instagram and Facebook.

And for those hoping Instagram can bring this feature to Android might have to wait for a long time. Apparently, the required APIs for Hyperlapse to work aren’t available on Android at the moment.

Flipboard makes a quick appearance on Windows Phone

It took a year but finally Flipboard makes its way to Windows Phone platform. But that appearance is short-lived as they pulled the “incomplete build” from Windows Phone Store. It was reported earlier by The Verge that the app was missing a key feature: flipping action. The app reportedly displayed all other functionalities available on other platforms, including options to share, like, comment, and search. It also doesn’t seem to support Windows Phone devices with 512MB RAM. But Flipboard wanted to clarify that the app that was shown on Windows Phone Store was a placeholder. Guess we’d have to wait a bit more for the actual app.

Samsung shuffles around engineers to expand different portfolios

Looks like Samsung doesn’t just want its mobile business to flourish. The South Korean tech giant has moved 500 engineers from its mobile division to different groups, such as home electronics and software sections. This move is intended to improve the company’s competitive edge in the internet of things market and improve synergies for the Tizen platform.

“It sounds like (Samsung) doesn’t plan on going big with Tizen on its smartphones,” said Song Myung-sup, an analyst with HI Investment & Securities in Seoul told the Wall Street Journal. “The move will likely help resolve convergence issues that arise when connecting network devices like TVs and wearables with smartphones, but this shows less determination on Tizen smartphones."
