Apple introduces ‘Indie Game Showcase’ section on iTunes App Store

Apple aims to turn the spotlight on the independent game developers with a new ‘Indie Game Showcase’ section on the iTunes App Store. The new section will be updated occasionally with some notable titles being highlighted along with favorite games from other studios.

The description for the newly created section states: “Often made up of just a few dedicated members, independent studios prove that what really matters is the size of your dream. In each Indie Game Showcase, we celebrate a popular game and its creative team, highlighting the developer’s titles along with their favorite games from other studios.”

Ouya removes free-to-play requirement to gain more high-quality games

The Android-based microconsole Ouya used to require game developers to include a demo component or make the game entirely free. However, some developers did not have a budget to offer demos or believed the requirement didn’t match some games. Now, Ouya seems to have a change of heart and will let developers offer free-to-play or paid model for the console starting April.

“We’re clearing another roadblock in the pathway to publishing on the TV, and that means more great games will make it to Ouya,” the company said in a blog post.
