Android KitKat build causing NFC issues on Nexus devices

Nexus users seem to be running into trouble with some builds of KitKat operating system. Updating to the new OS causes Near Field Communication or NFC to shut down on their devices once you update to KitKat. It affects Nexus 10 tablets, 2012 and 2013 versions of Nexus 7, Nexus 5, and Nexus 4. The bugs are present in the builds Android 4.4 (KRT16S), Android 4.4.1 (KOT49E), and Android 4.4.2 (KOT49H). Google is working on a fix for this bug and will most likely be remedied by the next firmware release.

The temporary remedy for the issue is to activate airplane mode on the device. It will let NFC work at lease once before the crash loop starts.

Google introduces Add-on store for Docs and Sheets

 

Google is aiming to take away some Office users and migrate to its own document suite with its new Add-on store for Docs and Sheets. The store features both third-party and Google-made tools to give users more features needed by documents and spreadsheets such as making labels and sending customized emails. There are about 30 add-ons at the moment including EasyBib’s Bibliography Creator to help students look up academic sources and insert citations in the different formats.

Yahoo! redesigns Search app for iOS

While a bit late in the game, Yahoo! unveiled the version 3.0 of its Search app on iOS to match iOS 7 design. It features a minimalistic look so users can gain faster access to the results they need. Other new features include voice search, setting Safe Search preferences, and getting instant suggestions through Search Assist. The app has also been updated to add SSL support.

Samsung Ativ Book 9 to get faux leather treatment

Samsung seems to love the faux leather design so much they’re extending it beyond its tablets and smartphones to its laptops. The new Ativ Book 9 features a faux leather cover over the lid. This recently launched device is a 15.6-inch Chromebook with Full HD LED display, 2.6GHz Intel Core i5 processor, 128GB solid state drive, 4GB RAM, and 720p webcam. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi ac, HDMI out, VGA, out, two USB 3.0 ports, one USB 2.0 port, Gigabit LAN, Bluetooth 4.0, and a memory card slot. It will come in black and white color options.
