Beats Music subscription service now accepts username registration

While we wait to see what YouTube’s music service will be like, we have another tech giant launching its own music subscription service this January. The Beats Music service from Beats Audio and Nine Inch Nails’ Trent Reznor is nearing its launch date and wants users to claim their usernames ahead of time. Beats Music was previously called Project Daisy and there aren’t any additional details yet on what this service will offer that is different from those on the market.

Next USB plug will be reversible

Doesn’t it seem like a waste of time when you have to figure out what side of the USB plug goes into your device when you want to charge it? It seems work has begun to create a new USB connector called Type C that is supposedly going to be finalized mid-2014. The connector will be around the size of a microUSB plug and will be reversible.

“This new industry standards-based thin connector delivering data, power, and video is the only connector one will need across all devices,” Brad Saunders, USB 3.0 Promoter Group chairman, said in a press release.

YouTube streaming music service might come out in Q1 2014

Looks like we’ll have to wait until the first quarter of next year before we catch a glimpse of YouTube’s take on Spotify. All Things D reported that YouTube wants to work on the product more despite having the necessary licensing deals done. The Verge cited some of the rumoured features including background playback, offline syncing and “no ads on millions of songs.” It will supposedly come with a free version or a premium version that would cost around US$10.
