Asus debuts Transformer Book T100

Asus has announced a new laptop-tablet hybrid, the Transformer Book T100. The 10.1-inch laptop runs on Intel Atom Bay Trail Z3740 quad-core processor and comes with a detachable 10.5mm thin HD display that can run on its own as a Windows 8.1 tablet.

The Transformer Book T100 is also equipped with Intel Gen7 HD graphics, 2GB of memory, and 32GB or 64GB eMMC storage. It promises an 11-hour battery life, if used continuously, and up to 14 days in standby mode. Connectivity options include 802.11 a/b/g/n dual-band Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0. The 32GB version will retail for $399.99 and be up for sale on October 18 in stores across Canada.

Nokia rolls out Here map update for offline maps

Nokia has announced an update for its Here map application. Windows Phone smartphones are going to be receiving an update in the coming days that allows for incremental updates of offline maps. This means that if only a portion of a map is updated, then you can just download that part. Nokia hopes this reduces your data consumption and faster update overall. No word yet when it’s coming to Android and iOS platforms.

Dell introduces laptop with Retina Display-busting resolution

Dell has introduced a slew of new devices and upgrades but what caught our attention is the new XPS 15. A 15.6-inch touch-based laptop with a whopping 3200 x 1800 pixel Quad HD+ display, beating Apple’s 2880 x 1800 MacBook Pro.  The XPS 15 runs on the new Intel Haswell processors, up to 512GB SSD storage, and claims of up to 13 hours of battery life.

YouTube to hold first music awards

YouTube is sponsoring its first YouTube Music Awards this November 3 and will feature big names like Lady Gaga, Eminem, and Arcade Fire. The show will stream live online from Pier 36 in New York City and be hosted by actor Jason Schwartzman. 

The show will be honoring “artists and songs that YouTube fans have turned into global hits over the past year.” The nominees will be announced on October 17. There are also going to be events at Seoul, Moscow, London, and Brazil.
