Netflix rumoured to be buying Roku

Source: Roku

Netflix might be changing its mind about adding a device to its stable. The company is reportedly in talks with Roku to acquire its business. Citing sources familiar with the company, Roku employees have allegedly had their trading window shut for selling Roku stock. This typically happens when information could be released that would affect its stock. It's meant to prevent insider trading. Roku's stock has dropped nearly 80% since July 2021 due to weak demand for its streaming hardware.

The streaming service's potential acquisition is reportedly a "focus of internal chatter" at the company. This report comes after it was a target of an acquisition last year. Neither company has yet to confirm the rumours. But Netflix itself is facing stock falls due to fierce competition from the likes of Disney, HBO Max, and more. Netflix has recently confirmed plans to adopt a cheaper ad-supported plan, so bringing in Roku, which has experience in the market, can possibly help them out.

Apple tipped to be working on 15-inch MacBook Air

Source: MacRumors

Even as the MacBook Air just got a refresh, Apple is reportedly working on a 15-inch version of the slim laptop. It'll reportedly launch at the end of 2023 or early 2024. This rumoured device will be the closest to the larger 16-inch MacBook Pro. This 15-inch variant will be the same as the current 13.6-inch model, which just launched.

According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, the company is also working on a 12-inch MacBook, but it isn't clear what model this will be. Apple hasn't offered a laptop of this size since the Retina MacBook was discontinued.

Apple refreshes MacBook Air with new M2 chip

If you still haven't heard the news, Apple has refreshed the MacBook Air with its new M2 chip. The design resembles the 14-inch MacBook Pro with a more squared-off look instead of its traditional wedge shape. Apple brings MagSafe charging to this model, complete with a braided cable that matches its colourways. There are four to choose from: silver, space grey, Starlight (gold), and Midnight (blue). As a thin and lightweight laptop, it comes in at 11mm thick and weighs around 2.7 pounds.

The MacBook Air's starting model has an eight-core GPU, 8GB of RAM, and 256GB of SSD storage. There's also an option with a 10-core GPU, 8GB of RAM, and 512GB of storage. You have the chance to boost memory and storage by up to 24GB of RAM and 2TB of storage. Pricing starts at $1,499 and is expected to launch next month.
