Pocket Casts app acquired by consortium of US radio stations

The Pocket Casts app has been arguable the best podcast app on Android with versions for iOS and the web. A consortioum of buyers comprised of NPR, WNYC, WBEZ, and This American Life have purchased Pocket Casts and collectively hope to improve the growing podcast space. What does this mean for the app? Nothing right now since it should work normally. NPR allready has an NPR One app but that could be folded into Pocket Casts in the future.

Apple's GymKit comes to Canada at Equinox Fitness Clubs

GymKit is a feature of the Apple Watch that allows it to interact directly with gym equiptment for more precise tracking of exercises and performance. Having rolled out in select US gyms, the functionality has arrived in Canada through LA Fitness equiptment available in Equinox Gyms in Canada.

Members of these gyms using the La Fitness machines can enjoy “gymKit-enabled treadmills, ellipticals, stair steppers, and indoor bikes for more accurate distance, pace, and energy burn metrics.” Life Fitness has also introduced GymKit in various  fitness clubs in the US, Hong Kong, and Japan.

Dell and Microsoft announce IoT parnership to simplify deployment

Microsoft is going all-in on Internet of Things devices and has even built its own processors which will be powered by Linux. Dell is an early partner in this initiative.Dell Technologies and Microsoft are collaborating to deliver a joint Internet of Things (IoT) solution designed to help vertical customers simplify deploying their end-to-end IoT solutions, from the edge to the cloud. The combination of Microsoft Azure IoT applications and services, VMware Pulse IoT Center and Dell Edge Gateways will offer customers streamlined management, centralized monitoring and security from devices to the cloud.

iPhone X sales defy Wall Street projections as Apple posts $61.1 billion quarterly revenue

Apple held its second quarter earnings call yesterday and dispelled any notions that the iPhone, it's most profitable product line, is slowing down in sales. The big surprise was that it was the iPhone X, which is the company's most innovative product and also its most expensive, was the bestseller for the quarter.

“We’re thrilled to report our best March quarter ever, with strong revenue growth in iPhone, Services and Wearables,” said CEO Tim Cook. “Customers chose iPhone X more than any other iPhone each week in the March quarter, just as they did following its launch in the December quarter. We also grew revenue in all of our geographic segments, with over 20% growth in Greater China and Japan.”
