Review: FlightTrack for Android, iPhone and BlackBerry

By Gadjo Cardenas Sevilla

Every once in a while an application comes around and is so good that it completely makes itself indispensable. FlightTrack from Mobiata, is such an app. Available for Android, iPhone and BlackBerry, FlightTrack offers realtime International flight tracking and alerts.

Before FlightTrack, people with smartphones would need to weave in and out of airport ad airline websites to get information on arrival and departure times plus there was no was to determine real-time status as well as get alerts in the event of a delay or cancellation.

That’s all possible now within a single interface. You can queue your flights and find out if they are on time, what sort of plane will be used as well as get local airport and even weather information. Once the flight has departed, tracking gets even better. FlightTrack actually gives you the plane’s speed, height as well as general location on a map so you get a really accurate visual as to where the plane is in reference to where it is going and where it departed from.

We’ve actually used FlightTrack numerous times in the past few months to schedule and monitor our own flights as well as those of people we needed to pick up and drop at the airport. Overall the app performed exceptionally well on our Android powered Nexus One.

Since it is available on most popular platforms and even on Apple’s iPad, users have a number of options on how and where to use the device. I see it as an indispensable tool for people who manage tour groups or who are in the travel and tourism business and need all the information about incoming and departing flights as soon as it is available.

FlightTrack is available for $4.99 on Android, BlackBerry and iPhone/iPad with a FlightTrack Pro version on all three platforms for $9.99. The Pro version offers the ability to save flight iteneraries more than 11 months in advance, offline mode so you can use the app while in the plane and more detailed real-time status tracking.
