Various banks and payments institutions welcome the arrival of Android Pay in Canada

Paper money and coins are inconvenient and time consuming ways to pay. Canadians have long embraced using debit and credit tap-to-pay systems. With the announcement earlier today that Android Pay is available in Canada. Various credit and payment institutions have welcomed the arrival of Android Pay.

Android Pay works at hundreds of thousands of shops that accept contactless payments, like Tim Hortons, Loblaws, Petro-Canada, McDonald’s, Indigo, Pizza Pizza, Sears Canada and in TELUS, Rogers, and Freedom Mobile retail stores. Just tap with your phone as you would with your participating credit, debit or prepaid card.

“Canadians are increasingly turning to mobile payments and by teaming up with Google we are giving Mastercard cardholders the ability to pay with their Android device,” said Jason Davies, Vice President, Digital Payments, Mastercard. “Now Android users can add their Mastercard to Android Pay and use their phone to make simple, fast and secure purchases anywhere they can tap.”

The launch of Android Pay in Canada will give Interac debit cardholders yet another way to pay using their own money.”
