Android Pay now available to American Express customers in Canada

American Express announces the availability of Android Pay, Google's mobile wallet, for Cardmembers in Canada. Android Pay is available for eligible Canadian Consumer, Small Business and Corporate Cards issued by Amex Bank of Canada1 and is supported on Android devices running on Kitkat 4.4 or higher.

"At American Express, we're committed to offering fast and easy ways for our Cardmembers to make purchases," says Megan McKee, Vice President of Consumer Cards, American Express Canada. "Whether they're shopping in-stores or in-apps, our Cardmembers now have the option to use Android Pay while continuing to receive all the benefits and rewards from Amex."

Various banks and payments institutions welcome the arrival of Android Pay in Canada

Paper money and coins are inconvenient and time consuming ways to pay. Canadians have long embraced using debit and credit tap-to-pay systems. With the announcement earlier today that Android Pay is available in Canada. Various credit and payment institutions have welcomed the arrival of Android Pay.

Android Pay works at hundreds of thousands of shops that accept contactless payments, like Tim Hortons, Loblaws, Petro-Canada, McDonald’s, Indigo, Pizza Pizza, Sears Canada and in TELUS, Rogers, and Freedom Mobile retail stores. Just tap with your phone as you would with your participating credit, debit or prepaid card.

Android Pay prepares for its British Invasion

Android Pay is fast gaining ground and is aiming to unveil its services in the U.K. which is usually a good test bed for the rest of Europe as well as other countries in the world. Android Pay uses secure applications as well as NFC to enable touchless mobile payments.

Google has announced that it is to launch its Android Pay mobile payment service in the UK within the “next few months.” Supporting banks will include Bank of Scotland, First Direct,Halifax, HSBC, Lloyds Bank, M&S Bank, MBNA and Nationwide Building Society, “with new banks being added all the time,” according to Google. Android Pay is not available in Canada at this time.

Google I/O: Android M will feature fingerprint enabled mobile payments platform

Google is hoping to catch app to rival mobile payments solution Apple Pay. Coming with the next version of the Android OS (Android M), the Android Pay system will leverage NFC to enable secure payments in over 700,000 locations in the US. Android Pay will also enable in app purchases as well as web purchases that support the service.
