TikTok sets a default 60-minute daily screen time limit for teens
TikTok will enable a daily screen time limit for users under 18 years. (You must be at least 13 years old to use TikTok.) When young users hit the 60-minute limit, TikTok will ask them to enter a passcode to continue using the service for the day. This feature will be turned on by default, but there will be an opt-out option. It will be coming to users "in the coming weeks."
ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok, introduced the feature to help its users "stay in control" of their use. As part of the feature, the teen users will It comes after TikTok introduced a prompt last year that encouraged teens to manage screen time. The company said it helped "increase the use of our screen time tools by 234%."
Any teenage user who opts out of this new restriction and goes on to use the app for 100 minutes a day will get a prompt from TikTok to set their own screen time controls. Parents of children using the Family Pairing option can set screen time limits and access a dashboard that shows the app usage breakdown.
