Pirated Windows 10 desktops will have watermarks on them

Microsoft caused a bit of a hullaballoo when a remark they made was interpreted as the company allowing pirated users of previous Windows versions to gain access to the free upgrade of Windows 10. Terry Myerson, EVP of OS for Microsoft, said that pirated copies of Windows 10 will be getting permanent watermarks on the desktop to serve as a reminder that they’re using an illegal copy of the OS.

They plan to make people with non-genuine versions of Windows to through the Windows Store to upgrade, which would more or less mean they have to pay. Myerson said though that they intend to offer “very attractive” genuine upgrades for these kinds of users. What they plan on doing, we don’t know just yet. Aside from the watermark though, Microsoft can go as far as not sending essential security updates to the pirated copies.

Apple acquires Coherent Navigation for precision GPS mapping

Perhaps Apple is looking to improve its mapping services with its latest purchase. The tech giant just bought Coherent Navigation, a company specializing in High Integrity GPS. We don’t know exactly what Apple plans to do with the company because they won’t disclose details about it. According to MacRumors though, some Coherent employees have been moving to Apple so it could be an acquisition both for talent and technology.

This isn’t Apple’s first purchase of a mapping company though. They’ve bought companies like Placebase, Hopstop, Locationary, and Embark.

First trailer for the Aaron Sorkin’s Steve Jobs biopic shows up

We’re finally getting the first look at the new Aaron Sorkin movie based on Steve Jobs’ life. Universal Studios just released the first trailer of the film starring Michael Fassbender as Steve Jobs. We can’t tell yet what type of film it’s going to be like but we’re excited to see more.

The film is based on Walter Isaacson’s Steve Jobs biography and it also stars the likes of Seth Rogen as Steve Wozniak, Kate Winslet as Joanna Hoffman, and Jeff Daniels as John Sculley. The movie is directed by Danny Boyle and is scheduled for an October 9 release in the US. Will this be better than Pirates of Silicon Valley? Expectations are high, it definitely can't be worse than Ashton Kutcher's Jobs.
