Trudeau slams Bell Media layoffs, citing harm to local journalism

Prime Minister Trudeau blasted BCE Inc.'s layoffs at Bell Media, including cuts to local newscasts and radio stations, calling it a "garbage decision." He expressed his anger at a press conference, citing a $140 million decline in Bell Media's advertising revenue and $40 million in annual news division losses.

Bell Media announced on Thursday it would end multiple television newscasts and other programming following its parent company's job cuts. It also put on sale 45 of its 103 regional radio stations.

Bell, Air Canada to offer free messaging on flights

Bell and Air Canada have teamed up to offer free access to messaging apps for all Aeroplan members worldwide on Wi-Fi-equipped planes. Bell will sponsor the inflight Wi-Fi services across Air Canada's fleet, including Air Canada Rogue and Air Canada Express, starting May 15. This deal will let you use apps like iMessage, WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, Viber, and Messages by Google. You don't have to be a Bell subscriber to get access.

'The Last of Us' TV show will premiere on January 15

We finally have a release day for HBO's adaptation of the video game franchise The Last of UsIt's coming to HBO Max on January 15. In Canada, Bell's Crave service will stream the series on day one. The show tells the story of Joel and Ellie, two people living in a world devastated by the outbreak of a deadly fungus that mutates the infected into terrifying monsters. 

The Last of Us stars Pedro Pascal (The Mandalorian) and Bella Ramsey (Game of Thrones) as Joel and Ellie. Merle Dandridge reprises her role as Marlene and Nick Offerman will be the survivalist Bill. Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson, who plays Joel and Ellie from the games, also star in the show but in unannounced roles.

'Dune' is coming to Crave on Mar. 18

If you haven't caught Denis Villeneuve's Dune, you can finally catch it on Bell's Crave service beginning March 18. Bell announced the news on Twitter. And it's already seen on its website.

Dune is the first part of a planned two-part adaptation of Frank Herbert's novel by the renowned Canadian director. It stars an ensemble cast including Timothée Chalamet, Josh Brolin, Oscar Isaac, Zendaya, and Jason Momoa. It was initially available only in theatres and through digital rental or purchase on different platforms.
