Red Bull Global Rallycross: Welcome to Canada

In celebration of Canada 150, the Red Bull Global Rally Cross (GRC) held its inaugural Canadian race in Ottawa June 17 and 18. The doubleheader featured a brand new track built one week before the event at the Canada Aviation and Space Museum.

While I’ve been to a few motorsport events, I’ve never followed the Global Rallycross before. When the opportunity came from BF Goodrich to attend the event, and have some time with Canadian-born North American Rally Champ and X-Games medalist Andrew Comrie-Picard (ACP) walking us through the race, I decided to take my 9-year-old son and spend the day in our nation’s capital.

Ancestry.ca reveals Canada's diverse 'DN-eh'

For Canada's 150th, Ancentry, the world's largest consumer DNA database, has revealed the results to answer the question "So, what Canadians are made of?" The study of more than 70,000 Canadians maps out the genetic make-up of the country.

According to the results, the average Canadian is more continental European (46%) than British, Irish or Scottish (43%), and this European DNA mix includes Western European (France/Germany) representing 16.6 per cent of the average Canadian’s DNA while Scandinavia and Eastern European (a region including Poland, Ukraine and Croatia) each represent 8.5 per cent. The average Canadian has 24 per cent Great Britain DNA and 19 per cent Ireland/Scotland/Wales.

Apple Music releases curated 'Canada's top 150 songs of all-time' playlist

Apple Music Canada’s editors are helping our country celebrate Canadian music talent by releasing the top 150 Canadian songs of all-time. During the next three weeks, Canadians are invited to tune-in to Apple Music and count-down the music of all genres appreciated around the world through four amazing playlists.

To start, listen here to discover songs 101-150, plus 50 songs showcasing the top 50 tracks by Canada's “The Next Generation” of artists: applemusic.com/canada150 

For each playlist, artist Douglas Coupland has created four playlist covers for Apple Music, where elements of “Carr War Canoes” are featured - see sample of the first playlist cover attached. “Harris Holofile Iceburgs” if featured on the cover the Next Generation playlist.

Samsung technology grants150 STEM-based community solutions for Canada’s 150th year  

Samsung Canada just announce the 150 regional finalists moving on to the next phase of the Samsung Solve for Tomorrow Challenge, which asked Canadian students from Grades 6 through 12 to identify issues in their local communities and develop solutions using science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). 

These 150 regional finalists now move closer to being awarded one of four $20,000 Samsung technology grant packages as a Regional Winner as well as an exclusive event with Canadian rocket-scientist, Forbes ’30 Under 30’ and member of a Canadian contingent working on the European Space Agency’s ExoMars rover, Natalie Panek.  

 “These 150 regional finalists embody what Solve for Tomorrow is all about: innovation, teamwork, and a commitment to the future of Canadian communities. As we celebrate Canada’s 150th this year, we are excited to see inspired student solutions come to life that will have local, national and even global implications,” said Mark Childs, Chief Brand Officer, Samsung Canada.
