Google is working on Nest Audio and Chromecast integration

Source: Google

One significant feature missing from the Nest Audio is its inability to serve as a speaker for TVs that use Chromecast. Its competitors—Apple and Amazon—allow their new smart speakers to work with their set-top boxes/media players to turn them into home theatre speakers. But now, Google confirms it is working on Nest Audio and Chromecast integration. The feature was already hinted at by the company in unused marketing material.

Google hasn't revealed anything beyond that. And there are some unknowns regarding the feature. We don't know yet if you can use it with more than one Nest Audio at the same time. Or whether it'll support older Google speakers and older versions of Chromecast. We also don't know when it might arrive. The marketing material was supposed to be for the September 30th Launch Night In event, but it was pulled at the last minute, suggesting the feature wasn't and isn't ready yet.

Google Nest Audio takes on Amazon Echo

Google rebrands the Google Home speaker and makes it part of the Nest line of products as the new Nest Audio. In Canada, its starting price is $129, and it will be available starting October 5, Monday. Its pricing places it up against the new Amazon Echo speaker. And the most significant change is in its upgraded sound. It also comes in five shades, including Chalk, Charcoal, Sage, Sand, and Sky.

It has a 19mm tweeter for high-frequency coverage and clear vocals and a 75mm midwoofer for better bass. Google claims the Nest Audio is 75% louder with a 50% stronger bass than the original Google Home speaker launched in 2016. The Nest Audio also gets the latest Google updates, including real-time, multi-room audio, stream transfer for moving sound from speaker to speaker via voice commands, and voice calling with Google Duo.

The Nest Audio was launched alongside the new Chromecast with Google TV, Pixel 5, and Pixel 4a 5G.

Google Nest Audio's design, price leaked

Source: WinFuture

We're getting a look at Google's new smart speaker, which is expected to launch alongside the new Google Chromecast dongle at the end of this month. The speaker will reportedly be called Google Nest Audio, and it'll arrive in the colours, Charcoal, Chalk, Sage, Sand, and Sky. The Nest Audio is expected to cost around US$100 (approx. CA$132).

It's rumoured to stand around 7 inches and will feature a notification light in the front that shows volume levels and inform you when Google Assistant is listening for your input or inquiry. Nest Audio will supposedly have a proprietary power cable and feature audio quality and fidelity of the Google Home Max, which Google might discontinue.
