Google Pixel 2 and XL 2 cases show up on Amazon ahead of the phones’ launch

Google Pixel XL 2 Case, MicroP Soft TPU Brushed Anti-fingerprint Full-body Protective Phone Case Cover For Google Pixel XL2 (Black Brushed TPU)

We aren’t expecting the new Google Pixel 2 and Pixel XL 2 to show up just yet but it seems third-party accessory manufacturers want to get ahead of the game. Four protective cases and two screen protectors have shown up on Amazon for the Google Pixel 2 and Pixel XL 2 showing nearly bezel-less designs that have been rumoured in the past. It seems to have the 18:9 aspect ratio, which seems identical to the Full Vision display panel by LG. It’s supposedly apt since LG is rumoured to be making at least one of the handsets. Before it was also rumoured that LG was going to supply the screen modules for both devices, so having the similar taller displays in the renders seem to give more credence to that.

There isn’t any information on screen sizes but contrary to rumours that Google was axing the headphone jack, there is still a cutout for it. But it looks like the Google Pixel 2 has a more angled camera module than its bigger brother, the Pixel XL 2. Both look like they’ll retain the circular fingerprint scanner on the device. The phone might be a couple of months away but if getting the cases ahead of time is something you want to do, these go for as low as US$7.99.

Google Pixel XL 2 might get a ‘squeezable’ frame

If you’ve seen or heard of the HTC U11, you’ll be familiar with the device’s “squeezable” sides. HTC calls it Edge Sense, a feature that lets users squeeze the side of the smartphone to do things like turn on the flashlight, open the camera and take a photo, as well as launch Google Assistant. Something similar might be coming to the second iteration of the Google Pixel XL, except the device won’t be made my HTC. According to a leak from Android Police, it’ll supposedly be made by LG. The looks won’t stray too far from the original Pixel and it’ll still have a rear fingerprint sensor and a large single-lens camera.

The XL version is said to have a 6-inch LG-made display with 2:1 ratio, “minimal bezel,” and rounded corners. It might have a longer design with thinner side and top/bottom bezels. The squeezing part is said to trigger Google Assistant “in various ways.” There is no indication when the device will be released. And they also didn’t have any info on the smaller Google Pixel. But if Google follows last year’s launch, it could come out around October this year.
