TIFF's premiere of LION and how it brings us home

By Sonya Davidson (above photo courtesy of TIFF)

There is much buzz already with the World Premiere of Garth Davis's LION here at the 2016 Toronto International Film Festival. The first screening apparently received a standing ovation and the trailer is enough to have me go through several tissues.

The film stars Dev Patel (Slumdog Millionaire, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel) in the lead adult role in the real life story of Saroo Brierley who was separated from his family at four years old in rural India. Based on his book A Long Way Home, Saroo gets lost on a train which takes him thousands of kilometres across India away from his home and family. Saroo learns to survive alone in Kolkata before ultimately being adopted by an Australian couple.

Apple now selling OS X Lion in USB thumdrives

Users who want a physical copy of Mac OS X Lion or who don't want the $29.99 download can now purchase the latest Mac OS in USB thumbdrive form for $69.99 at the Apple Online Store. Just like the OS that ships with the MacBook Air (but installable in most modern Macs).

Are you ready for Mac OS X Lion?

The next version of Apple's OS X is codenamed Lion and will add some of the more outstanding elements of the mobile iOS platform to the desktop. Apple just released a developer preview of Mac OS X Lion, which takes some of the best ideas from iPad  and some new features like AirDrop (wireless Mac to Mac file sharing) and the ability to run full-screen apps.

Apple prepping for October 20th media event focusing on Mac OS

Apple has sent out invites to a "media event" set for October 20th. The most interesting thing about the invitation is the slogan "Back to Mac," as well as a sneak-peek at what looks to be a Lion, signifying the possible introduction of OS X 10.7 probably codenamed Lion. We're hoping that some new Macs will be announced at this event, hopefully a cheaper, smaller MacBook Air which hasn't seen an update for over a year.
