Actor David Cross lets you pay what you want to download his film on BitTorrent

Looking for less traditional ways to get his first film to the fans, David Cross is letting you pay what you want for his new film HITS over at BitTorrent. This offer will be available for the first two weeks of the film’s release starting this Friday, February 13. It remains to be seen if this’ll be a good distribution model but he hopes this will get the film faster to fans and it’ll eliminate the need to pirate a copy. Fans of the film will also be able to pay what they want at 50 select theatres in the U.S. and Canada during the film’s debut on Thursday. But HITS will also get a more traditional release in theatres in New York and Los Angeles. Vimeo, Google Play, and iTunes will also distribute the film.

HITS stars Matt Walsh, Meredith Hagner, Jason Ritter, Amy Sedaris, and Michael Cera. It tells the story of Dave, a municipal worker that causes a ruckus in his town when his rants about potholes went viral on YouTube.

Netflix's Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos said they want the film to be available to its 53 million subscribers around the world but won't say what efforts they are making to make this possible. Sony has made no immediate comment on the matter as well.

Even without Netflix, the film has become Sony's top online film garnering over US$37 million in sales. It has also earned $5 million in the US box office.

We’re getting one more game turned movie in the future in the form of Magic: The Gathering. Fox said the script is only in its first draft at the moment and there is no director yet but it has gained a writer from the Game of Thrones named Bryan Cogman. While his name isn’t that familiar to some, he has been working on the show since season one. He has written “The Laws of Gods and Men” episode where Tyrion Lannister was on trial.
