MWC 2019: LG introduces V50 ThinQ 5G

The LG V50 ThinQ 5G with the optional Dual Screen case

The V series isn't something LG typically launches at this time of the year. But it looks like the company wants to capitalize on the buzz surrounding 5G and opted to launch its own 5G-ready phone at MWC. The LG V50 ThinQ 5G will come with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset alongside an embedded Qualcomm X50 modem, which promises "up to 20 times the speed of 4G."

Looks-wise, it's similar to the V40. It has the same 6.4-inch 3,120 x 1,440 resolution OLED display. Its body is MIL-STD 810G compliant. The notch hasn't gone away, either. You get two selfie cameras: a standard 8-megapixel sensor and a 5-megapixel wide-angle sensor. It also has the same triple camera system at the back, which includes a 12-megapixel standard lens with f/1.5 aperture, a 12-megapixel telephoto lens with f/2.4 aperture, and a 16-megapixel ultra-wide lens with f/1.9 aperture.

MWC 2019: Huawei unfolds Mate X

It's here. Huawei's take on the foldable device trend. We welcome the Mate X. Unlike the Samsung Galaxy Fold that has the bigger tablet display inside the fold like a book, the Huawei Mate X folds outwards. If you want to go from the 6.6-inch smartphone display to the 8-inch tablet, you'll just need to unfold it.  It's able to do so thanks to Huawei's patented Falcon Wing design, its hinge that has over 100 components.

Sony teases ‘new perspective’ for MWC 2019 event

Sony is rumoured to be releasing really tall smartphones at Mobile World Congress 2019. And the company alludes to these new devices in its teaser for its MWC event with the caption: "Embrace a new perspective with #Xperia at #SonyMWC". Now, what this new perspective is, we can't say. The rumoured devices, which are being called Xperia 10 and 10 Plus, are presumed to be mid-range phones with extremely tall 21:9 displays. The former has a 5.9-inch screen, while the latter has 6.5-inch display. Sony will be unveiling its new products at MWC on February 25 at a presentation that starts at 8:45 a.m., Central European Time.

LG G8 ThinQ gets leaked in new renders

LG plans to release its newest flagship, the G8 ThinQ, at MWC 2019. And while LG has somewhat been able to keep the new device under wraps, Evan Blass got his hands on rumored leaked renders of the phone. Its rear looks are similar to the V30. This render debunks the rumour that we're getting a triple camera system this time around. Instead, we're still getting a dual camera setup. The front is similar to the G7 ThinQ but the camera has been relocated to the left to make space for the only confirmed feature: the ToF front camera. It is said to offer better, more secure facial biometrics.

Port layout seems to be the same. You get the volume controls and an extra button on the left (the latter could be a Google Assistant button); the power button and SIM tray on the right; and speaker, USB-C port, and headphone jack at the bottom. The LG G8 ThinQ is expected to get 128GB storage. It'll be launched on February 24.
