MWC 2019: LG introduces V50 ThinQ 5G

The LG V50 ThinQ 5G with the optional Dual Screen case

The V series isn't something LG typically launches at this time of the year. But it looks like the company wants to capitalize on the buzz surrounding 5G and opted to launch its own 5G-ready phone at MWC. The LG V50 ThinQ 5G will come with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset alongside an embedded Qualcomm X50 modem, which promises "up to 20 times the speed of 4G."

Looks-wise, it's similar to the V40. It has the same 6.4-inch 3,120 x 1,440 resolution OLED display. Its body is MIL-STD 810G compliant. The notch hasn't gone away, either. You get two selfie cameras: a standard 8-megapixel sensor and a 5-megapixel wide-angle sensor. It also has the same triple camera system at the back, which includes a 12-megapixel standard lens with f/1.5 aperture, a 12-megapixel telephoto lens with f/2.4 aperture, and a 16-megapixel ultra-wide lens with f/1.9 aperture.

The V50 now has a 4,000mAh battery. It also has stereo speakers and 32-bit Hi-Fi Quad DAC (yes, the headphone jack is still there). There isn't an in-display fingerprint sensor. Instead, there's the rear fingerprint sensor and the selfie camera lets you do face unlock.

While this 5G phone isn't a foldable device, there is an optional second screen case for the V50. This Dual Screen accessory adds a 6.2-inch 2,160 x 1,080 resolution OLED display. It connects to the V50 via pogo pins in phone's rear. It gives you an extra display to work with and supports both landscape and portrait use.

The LG V50 is coming first to the US exclusively through Sprint, while other countries like South Korea, Australia, and several other unspecified European countries are expected to get the phone, too. It comes in Aurora Black.
