Microsoft plans to release Lumia 1020-like devices

If you’ve been a fan of the 41-megapixel-toting Nokia 1020, you might be getting a new one in the future. Microsoft’s Corporate Vice President of the Phone Business Unit, Jo Harlow, confirmed with TechRadar that similar devices would be part of their product pipeline. He didn’t say when we’d be seeing it but the Lumia 1020 was out in 2013 so it is bound for a refresh under the now Microsoft-owned Nokia.

Harlow said, “Absolutely—we’re not end of the mission in camera technology, or in computational photography. We continue to invest in that area to bring the next greatest thing in high-end imaging.”

Nokia adds RAW image support for Lumia 1020 and 1520

Credit: engadget.com

Nokia is bringing RAW photo support to the new Lumia 1520 and Lumia 1020 devices. Images on these phones can be saved as uncompressed Digital Negative files. Take note that utilizing the Lumia 1020’s 41MP and 1520’s 20MP sensors for RAW image saving can eat up phone storage rather quickly.

Canadian students win Nokia Capture Hackathon

After 1,000 ideas submitted from around the world and 10 teams selected as finalists (6 soloists and four teams of 2), Canadian college students Rudi Chen and Shida Li beat out both student and seasoned developer teams and were crowned winners of Nokia’s Capture developer contest during a 27-hour hackathon in Sweden.

The University of Waterloo students were first-time hackathon attendees and their winning application was a “content-aware down-sampling” smart resizing app that lets users edit or delete empty space between important parts of a photo while keeping the rest of the image. They each took home Nokia Lumia 1020 and a trip to attend an upcoming event where the app will be showcased.

Nokia Lumia 1020 coming to TELUS, brings Lumia 625 with it

Looks like the Nokia Lumia 1020 isn’t going to be exclusive to Rogers. MobileSyrup reported that current flagship from the Finnish tech company is going to be available for TELUS subscribers, making this the first time they have carried a flagship Windows Phone since 2012 when they offered the Lumia 800. Aside from the 41MP Lumia 1020, Nokia’s low-cost 4.7-inch Lumia 625 is also going to be carried by TELUS.
