Samsung no longer supports Galaxy S8

Photo by Alex Blăjan on Unsplash

Samsung has finally ended support for most of the Galaxy S8 series. The exceptions are the Galaxy S8 Active and Galaxy S8 Lite, which came out months after the main S8 phones were released. It isn't surprising that Samsung halted support for these 2017 flagships. As Engadget pointed out, even Google doesn't support Pixel for that long. But Samsung has been generally good with maintaining that four-year support for its models.

The oldest Samsung models to get monthly updates now are the Galaxy S10 phones. The company has already transitioned the Galaxy S9 and S9+ to quarterly security updates, which means these will get one more year of updates before these handsets lose support.

Samsung Galaxy S8 and Note8 update adds video lock screen support

If you thought the video lock screens on the Samsung Galaxy S9 were cool and you own one of the Galaxy S8/S8+ or Note8 devices, then you’re in luck. You get access to this feature with the new update. You just need to head over to the Backgrounds tab of Samsung themes to select a premade video wallpaper. If you want to use one of your own videos, just head to the Gallery app and tap on the three dots menu located on the top right corner and then choose “Set as background.” The latest update also brings with it the June security patch.

Android Oreo update for Samsung Galaxy S8 comes to more markets

Review: Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+

Following the release in Germany, three more countries are getting the Android Oreo update for the Galaxy S8 and S8+. These are France, India, and Poland. To know if you’re getting the update, the firmware version is G950/G955-FXXU1CRAP for the S8 and S8+, respectively. It’s being reported that only those who participated in the Oreo beta program in India and Poland are getting the update. No word yet from France but we expect this to be the same as well.

Samsung starts rolling out Android Oreo for Galaxy S8 and S8+, starts in beta in Germany

Review: Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+

Better late than never, right? Samsung just began pushing out the Android 8.0 Oreo for the Galaxy S8 and S8+. But it’s not coming to all devices around the world just yet. Version SM-G955XXU1CRAP is currently rolling out to German users who are part of Samsung’s beta program. This will later make its way to other users in the country and then later on to other regions. When that will happen we don’t know yet.

The arrival of Android Oreo also means users will be getting February security patch and Samsung Experience 9.0, which introduces things like a new keyboard, color lens for the display, and improvements to Bixby.
