Tech4SickKids fundraising initiative hopes to raise funds for SickKids

The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) is launching a new initiative to upgrade its facilities to meet the needs of its patients. Called #Tech4SickKids, the initiative is calling on the help of the tech and innovation community of Toronto to help raise $25 million for the improvement of child healthcare at SickKids. They will be hosting a launch event on November 15, which you can purchase tickets for from this link. A panel discussion will be held with SickKid experts entitled “SickKids: The other Canadian tech hub.”

The fundraising effort will help with things such as support for the first Chair in biomedical informatics and artificial intelligence in Canada; make SickKids the first children’s hospital in Canada to make use of data intelligence to improve efficiency of health care delivery and help cut down patient risk; as well as provide the funds to build a new campus complete with a state-of-the-art Emergency Suite. SickKids is currently housed in a 1949 building, which isn’t the best facility for furthering modern day, cutting edge child health care.

SickKids Hospital highlights strength in Moms in latest campaign

By Sonya Davidson

The Hospital for Sick Children (aka SickKids) in Toronto is somewhere you don't want to visit unless you need to...but also find comfort in knowing it's there. I've had my fair share of visits filled with worry, sleepless nights and raging tears...as a child, mom, friend, and volunteer. But each time I am eternally grateful with the compassion, care, and patience of doctors, nurses, and staff, as well as the state of the art facilities. This world-renowned hospital is a very special place.

As Mother's Day approaches, SickKids has launched a new SickKids VS campaign (created by Cossette Canada) to honour moms. The concept called "Breakdown" continues to feature the fierceness of their patience, families and staff.

Samsung and SickKids hope to bring a piece of home in new interactive Space

The Samsung Space is an interactive digital environment that will provide a variety of immersive experiences through the Samsung connected ecosystem, bringing visitors closer to what matters to them. (CNW Group/Samsung Electronics Canada)

There is no place like home for children. But when your child is suffering from an illness, you tend to spend a lot of time in the hospital. Samsung Electronics Canada and The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) hopes to ease things somehow with a new interactive digital environment right in the hospital. Located on the 9th floor of SickKids, the Samsung Space offers the children and their families things like a 75-inch SUHD TV for movie nights, a number of GearVR virtual reality headsets, Gear360 cameras, Galaxy Tab E devices, Galaxy View devices, and a Synced Interactive Table to let visitors play with their favourite apps and games.

Samsung Space will be open six days a week for in-patients and their loved ones to help provide a sense of normalcy for them. It is part of Samsung’s global philanthropic “Hope for Children” program as well as the company’s ongoing, multi-year partnership with SickKids.
