PlayStation Trophies on PC: A new possibility?

Sony

Data miners have discovered hints that PlayStation trophies might make their way to the PC in the future. These trophies are a way for Sony gamers to track their achievements on the console. Crossplay is becoming a bigger part of the gaming landscape, and Microsoft extended crossovers to its achievement system. Sony might want to offer something similar for its users.

The first hint is when Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered added PSN support for the PC. Modders discovered that support could be extended to all PlayStation Studios games. After that, a scanner discovered a new trophy list with the platform category "PSPC." It isn't attached to a specific game, but it looks like a test list of some sort. Digging into it showed that PSPC is separate from PS5, but there might be some form of integration there. For now, these are all just rumours.

Leaked images show PlayStation’s new handheld Project Q device

Photo: Sony

PlayStation has been developing a gaming handheld accessory for the PS5, codenamed Project Q, but details have been scarce since its first reveal. However, new images and a video of the device surfaced online over the weekend, revealing more about its operating system.

The leaks, which were posted on Reddit, Imgur, and Twitter by user Zuby_Tech, show that Project Q is running on the Android operating system. The OS looks very basic and probably not the final version for the handheld.

The images also give us a glimpse of Project Q’s internal components. According to the initial announcement, the device consists of an 8-inch tablet flanked by DualSense Controllers. The most notable feature of the leaked images is that the controllers are not detachable from the tablet. But like with any other leak, we always have to take them with a grain of salt.

Is Sony planning to release a new PS5 with a detachable disc drive?

Photo: Sony

Sony has not confirmed anything, but a new PlayStation 5 console may be coming soon. The rumours of a redesigned PS5 have been around for almost a year. One insider says he knows the release date. Sony usually makes mid-generation consoles. For example, the PS4 Pro and the PS4 Slim came after the PS4. The PS5 is three years old now, so people are wondering: What's next?

Some insiders say the new PS5 has a detachable disc drive. This means Sony only needs to make one base console. Players can choose to buy the disc drive or not. Reports claim it could come out sometime in September after an August launch. This is still a rumour, so don't get too excited. But it's hard to ignore when so many are going around.
