The 'Resident Evil Village' VR mode will launch with the Sony PSVR2 as a free update

Source: Capcom

Get ready to scare yourself in virtual reality with Resident Evil Village's VR mode, which will launch alongside the PlayStation VR 2 in February. According to Capcom, it'll be a free update for owners of the game. You can play the game's entire campaign in virtual reality and use the PSVR2's new Sense controllers. But you won't be able to use it for the more arcade-y Mercenaries mode or the recently-released story expansion Shadows of Rose. The PSVR2 is launching on February 22, 2023.

PS VR2 will cost US$550 when it arrives on Feb. 22

Sony finally has a release date for its next-gen virtual reality headset and how much it'll cost. The Sony PlayStation VR2 will arrive on February 22, making its availability exactly a year after it showed off the design. And it'll cost a hefty US$550 (around CA$750). It's more than the price you'll pay for the PlayStation 5, which you'll need to use the headset. So, prepare some extra cash. The headset comes with Sense controllers and stereo headphones.

If you want a bundle with the Horizon Call of Mountain, that'll cost you US$600 (~CA$819). And then you have to shell out an extra US$50 (~CA$68) for charging station. And then you'll have to think about games, too. The PS VR2 won't support existing PS VR games due to technical reasons, so you have to think of that expense, too. It's available for pre-order through Sony in the US, UK, France, Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg starting November 15. Other countries can lock in a pre-order through different retailers.

PSVR2 won't support PSVR games

Source: Sony

If you were wondering if you could play the PSVR games, unfortunately, Sony confirmed the upcoming PlayStation VR2 wouldn't support the titles. "PSVR games are not compatible with PSVR2 because PSVR2 is designed to deliver a truly next-generation VR experience," Hideaki Nishino, senior vice president of platform experience at PlayStation, said in an interview with the Official PlayStation Podcast published Friday.
