Microsoft's new ad dismisses iPads, tells grandmas to get Surface Go for Christmas instead

The ad is sweet but burns deeply. A 10-year-old girl implores her grandmother not to buy the iPad because while that was okay when she was 6, it's not anymore because she is 10 and needs a 'real computer.' The girl continues singing praises for all the world-changing things a Surface can do. This shows how competitive the 2-in-1 tablet market has become in the consumer space. As tablets continue to attempt to replace laptops, we will continue to see more of this type of advertising. Microsoft's latest ad seems to be a response to Apple's "What's a Computer," iPad Pro ad from more than a year ago.

Surface Go with LTE advanced begins shipping on November 20

Microsoft's smallest and most compact Surface, the Surface Go offers many advantages of the Windows-powered 2-in-1 at a cheaper price point and makes it available to users who couldn't consider a Surface Pro because of price.

New variants of the Surface Go with LTE advanced are coming to market and designd for enterprise adoption. A device as small as the Surface Go benefits from an always connected LTE connection that companies can manage better than having employees tether to their smartphones or rely on public WiFi access.

The Surface Go with LTE starts at $879 for the consumer model with 8GB and 128GB of SSD Storage. Commercial variants  of Surface Go with LTE start at $949.

Hands-on with the Microsoft Surface Go

By Gadjo Cardenas Sevilla

Microsoft’s Surface Go is their smallest, most aggressively priced Surface 2-in-1 device geared towards consumers but also aims to be a secondary device for front-line workers, CEO’s or office workers needing a small yet capable Windows tablet.

The device itself is impeccably designed and shares the solid fit and finish of larger Surface devices. It is definitely smaller at 10-inches, but it is also thinner and lighter at under a pound. It’s very easy to make comparisons to the latest Apple iPad and although the Surface Go is priced higher at $529, it is running Windows 10 S for consumers, which  means it can run desktop apps (it can be upgraded to Windows 10 Home).

Microsoft launches Surface Go, a 10-inch 2-in-1 starting at $529

Microsoft just made the Surface Go public. This is the smallest Surface device which is also the most affordable full-featured Surface device coming to Canada starting at $529. Surface Go is the thinnest and lightest Surface Microsoft has shipped. The device will have Windows 10 S installed, although it is likely users can upgrade to Windows 10 Pro.

Surface Go preorders start tomorrow in Canada as well as other markets. The Surface Go has a 10-inch PixelSense display, it can accept Surface Pen input with up to 4096 levels of pressure sensitivity which makes it ideal for creatives, editors and anyone who wants a digital easel and canvas. Powered by a 7th Generation Intel Gold processor in a fanless enclosure, the Surface Go will also be made available in an LTE model later this year.
