Source: Google

With the launch of the HD version of Chromecast, there's also an update coming to the 4K variant. 9to5Google got confirmation from Google that the Chromecast with Google TV (4K) is getting Android 12 soon. It's going to be the first significant update for the accessory in a while. It won't bring groundbreaking features, but it will add things like support for camera/microphone privacy indicators and blocking, 4K UI support, and a few tweaks.

Google launches Chromecast with Google TV (HD)

Source: Google

There's now a new cheaper version of the Chromecast to help you turn your old screens into smart TVs. The Chromecast with Google TV (HD) is a more affordable, "lite" version of the 4K option. It still plugs into any TV or computer monitor with an HDMI port. It even uses the same Google remote with programmable buttons.

This HD Chromecast though uses a different processor than the first-generation model. It is compatible with up to 1080P HDR and supports the AV1 codec, an open-source video format. This codec is a somewhat new addition to the Chromecast ecosystem, so it isn't available in the 4K model. This HD dongle doesn't support Dolby Atmos, though. Chromecast with Google TV (HD) is available now for $39.99 in the Google Store. And it only comes in Google's Snow White colourway.
