Netflix set to produce fourth 'Beverly Hills Cop' film

Netflix signed a deal with Paramount to license the Beverly Hills Cop movie and produce the fourth film with Eddie Murphy and producer Jerry Bruckheimer. If all goes well, there is an option for a sequel (or in this case, the fifth film). A reboot for the franchise has been in the works in a while, but this is the first time something seems to be taking off. Netflix will have control over the finances, director, and script of the movie.

This is the third time Paramount has collaborated with Netflix. The first two were distribution rights for Annihilation and The Cloverfield Paradox.

Netflix and Nickelodeon to create new content

What might seem like an unusual partnership makes perfect sense. Netflix and Nickelodeon have struck a multi-year deal to create new, original content for the streaming service based on both existing intellectual properties as well as new ones. The companies have already produced new series based on existing IPs like Rocko's Modern Life: Static Cling and Invader Zim: Enter the Florpus. There are reports that the two are working on a live-action series based on Avatar: The Last Airbender.

The move is a strategic one, with the just-launched Disney+ streaming service's arrival and its vast library of animated content. On top of that, other services, like HBO Max, have their own kid-friendly shows. Netflix needs to compete, and one way to do so is to collaborate with a brand known for its kid-related content. Although, we don't know how the merger between Nickelodeon's parent company Viacom and CBS will affect this deal, especially with CBS having its own CBS All Access service.
