DJI unveils the Mavic Mini, its lightest and smallest drone yet

DJI keeps its newest drone palm-sized. It's small and lightweight enough that in the US, it doesn't even need an FAA registration (make sure to check local laws and regulations!). The Mavic Mini weighs in at just 249 grams. But its feature set isn't lacking. It's designed to be accessible for beginners to hobbyists who want a compact drone to take aerial photography and videography with.

The Mavic Mini can take 12-megapixel photos and up to 2.7K Quad HD videos at 30 frames per second. There is no 4K support here, unfortunately. The drone has a maximum range of 4km and gives you a substantial flight time of 30 minutes. It has GPS receivers and downward visual sensors so you can expect precise hovering and stable flying. What it doesn't have is obstacle avoidance features, so if you aren't careful, you might crash it. We suggest getting used to flying it in open spaces.

Samsung wants to make a foldable flip phone

Samsung's next foldable device will have those nostalgic over clamshell phones excited. Well, for now, it's just a concept, but it shows that Samsung isn't done with foldable mobile devices yet. The idea behind this new concept is that they want to make smartphones more portable. The company isn't saying whether this will enter into production, but it showcased the idea at its recent developers conference. Rumour has it they are already developing it. The device will reportedly have a 6.7-inch display when you unfold it, and it'll reportedly be thinner than the Galaxy Fold.

If you thought you saw this idea before, well, Samsung isn't the only smartphone maker toying around with the idea of a foldable flip-style phone. Motorola, the makers of the famous clamshell Razr line, will unveil its take on the form factor on November 13.

'Game of Thrones' prequel starring Naomi Watts reportedly reaches untimely death

HBO

Just like many deaths on the show, it seems one Game of Thrones prequel isn't going to see the light of day—at least according to rumours. The prequel in question is the one written by Jane Goldman and starring Naomi Watts. It was supposed to take place thousands of years before Game of Thrones. HBO hasn't confirmed that the project has been canned, but Goldman is reportedly reaching out to the cast and crew informing them that the pilot is dead. The project first got green-lit back in June 2018, where it was chosen among other prequel scripts that were commissioned by HBO. Reports claim there were issues during filming in Northern Ireland, but it is unclear if this is the cause of the cancellation.

Back in September, HBO reportedly green-lit another prequel that follows the House of Targaryen. This one takes place 300 years before the main series.

Canada gets first dibs on Samsung's NFC payment acceptance system

Samsung wants to help small business owners set up an advanced mobile payment system for them. And so the company launched a new NFC-enabled, contactless payment acceptance system called Samsung POS (Point of Sale), which is coming exclusively to Canada for now. It lets merchants accept credit and debit payments of up to $100 just by merely tapping cards, Samsung Pay, Apple, Pay, and Google Pay on the NFC-enabled devices. It doesn't require extra hardware, dongles, or cables to use. Samsung partnered with Mobeewave to allow micro-merchants and small businesses to grow by accepting card payments.

The system lets merchants send receipts via email, access real-time sales data, provide sales history, and create multiple accounts for staff. Samsung POS has been piloted in Canada for the past few months, with it being downloaded 10,000 times. The Samsung POS app is available through the Galaxy Store or Google Play Store. It requires a simple sign-up process to register as a merchant. Samsung plans to bring the system to other markets next year.
