Spotify tries out Stories feature for artists

Embed from Getty Images

Spotify has its own take on Snapchat’s Stories feature and is calling it Storyline. The idea behind this is that musicians can share Stories-like content on their songs—whether these be a song’s influences or making-of trivia fans would love to hear. Unlike the Behind the Lyrics feature, which pulls information from Genius, artists will have to work directly with Spotify. The streaming service is trying out the feature on both Android and iOS, but it won’t say if or when this feature will be widely available to its users. The company says it’s always trying out new features and experiences. Expect it to show up for popular musicians.

Apple launches its new TV app on iOS, Apple TV, and Samsung smart TVs

Apple’s revamped TV app is now rolling out to over 100 countries for iOS users, Apple TV users, and select Samsung smart TVs. This brings the Apple TV channels, which was introduced back in March, and a new design, and personalized recommendations, among other features. Through iTunes, you will get access to over 100,000 TV sows and movies. The app will let you directly sign up in the app for popular video services (or what Apple calls channels) and access channels like Showtime, HBO, EPIX, MTV Hits, and Starz. By signing up through Apple TV, you can manage these services collectively within your account. The Apple TV app also offers Family Sharing for up to six family members and support for offline downloads to watch content offline.

For Samsung TV owners that have 2019 TVs and some 2018 models, the firmware update will come your way. And according to Samsung executives, the Apple TV app will work “seamlessly” with Bixby.

The Google Play Store nudges users to delete unused apps

Some users seem to be getting an alert from the Play Store to start cleaning out their phones—one app at a time. In a move reminiscent of the app manager it released back in 2016, a notification is popping up to remind Android users to delete unused apps. If you get the notification and tap on it, you’ll end up in the Notification section of the Play Store. From there, you can tap again to get the list of apps you haven’t used in a while. It also shows how much space you can save if you take out these apps. As mentioned, this doesn’t seem to be showing up to all users. But if you tend to not fill your phone with apps you don’t use, you might not even get the alert at all.

CBS All Access will release a black-and-white version of ‘The Twilight Zone’ in the US

CBS All Access

Here in Canada, Jordan Peele’s take on The Twilight Zone airs on Citytv, but in the US it’s available through CBS All Access. And the streaming service is showing the advantages of having the said service, it can re-release or modify shows in a slightly different format. On May 30th, the show will be coming out with a black-and-white version for the fans who wanted to capture the feel of the original. We aren’t sure if they will keep the original coloured version. But if you’re in the US and hoping to get this version, then you’re in luck. Now, we don’t know if this will make its way here.
