A sci-fi car exhibit in LA has HoloLens tours

The Petersen Automotive Museum in LA is going to be running a Hollywood Dream Machines exhibit featuring some of the most iconic vehicles from sci-fi movies and games. As expected, you’ll see the DeLorean from Back to the Future, the lightcycle from Tron: Legacy, Deckard’s sedan from Blade Runner. There are also cars like the Lexuses in Black Panther and Minority Report and life-size recreations of a Warthog from Halo and Sparrow from Destiny. But aside from seeing these vehicles as is, Microsoft is offering mixed reality tours using the HoloLens headset for the DeLorean and the Warthog to provide a more engaging experience with the exhibit. The opening reception for the exhibit is on May 4th at 7PM local time and will cost US$75 per ticket. The exhibit is going to run for a long time—until March 15th, 2020, to be exact.

Google Pixel 3a XL shows up at Best Buy in the US ahead of official release

Well, this killed any remaining mystery surrounding the more affordable Google Pixel devices—specifically the Pixel 3a XL. The phone was spotted at a Best Buy store in Springfield, Ohio. The phones were kept under glass but it showed the two previously leaked colours, “Purple-ish” and “Just Black.” The phone was being rumoured for a launch at Google’s I/O event on May 7th. This seems to confirm that the phone will make an appearance then. The rumoured specs of are 5.6-inch for the Pixel 3a and 6-inch for the Pixel 3a XL. The phones will reportedly run on a Snapdragon 670 and 710 processors, respectively, with 4GB of RAM and the same Pixel Visual Core that runs on the cameras of the current Pixel 3 phones. The prices are said to be US$399 for the Pixel 3a and $479 for the Pixel 3a XL. While this seems legitimate, the launch hasn’t happened yet, so as usual, it’s best to take this information with a grain of salt.

Instagram tests out ‘like-less’ feed in Canada

We say “like-less” but technically that isn’t what that means. We’ve reported this earlier, but Instagram has started rolling this test out here in Canada recently. The social network is taking away the ability of your users to see how many likes your posts get. What they’ll see instead is they’ll see one username and then the words “and others.” They won’t be able to see the actual number. Instagram says they’re trying this out because they want “your followers to focus on what you share, not how many likes your posts get.” However, you will be able to see how many likes your posts get. Some users online claim this defeats the purpose or essence of Instagram. But what do you think? Would you rather your followers see your “numbers” or just keep that figure to yourself?

Get ready to see more lifestyle focus from Dell

Personal computers are here to stay. This is what DELL firmly believes and they’ve been proactive in making sure their products are relevant to their users. According to Justin Lyles, VP Consumer Design, DELL looks at “... areas we can bring innovation and a different point of view on how we can make it better for the customer.”

Their strategy is to focus innovation to bring meaningful features to their products. Case in point – the infamous webcam being placed at the bottom of the screen in the previous generation XPS. Lyles concedes that it’s not the best placement for a webcam particularly as it shows users in an unflattering angle.
