Instagram will start showing recommended posts on your feed

You no longer have to head to the Explore tab to see some recommended accounts. Instagram is rolling out a “Recommended for You” section in your main feed. This may or may not sit well with users but it’s coming your way. If you go through all the new posts on your regular feed, that’s when this section will show up. It shows you posts from accounts your friends may follow and the social network things you might like or based on the company’s algorithm. Instagram even added a new section on its help site on this new feature.

OnePlus explores idea of bringing Face Unlock to 3/3T

We got news on Christmas that OnePlus was bringing its Face Unlock technology to the OnePlus 5. And we got more details about how that is going to come about. Carl Pei shared a post on the OnePlus forums sharing about how the OnePlus 5 will initially be part of the OxygenOS Open Beta as “an early test run” of sorts to work out any bugs. This will later on be pushed as part of the public OTA update.

Pei adds to this post asking the users of the OnePlus 3 and 3T if they want Face Unlock, too. Users are responding in kind as Android Central points out that one thread already has over 50 pages with people talking about Face Unlock on the OnePlus 3 and 3T.

LastPass remedies fingerprint security flaw in Authenticator app on Android

LastPass fixes up an issue recently spotted by a developer that lets him bypass a security feature on the Authenticator app on Android. The app adds an extra protection that requires a fingerprint or PIN to access passwords when you leave your phone unlocked. So, if you use LastPass on Android, now is the time to upgrade your app. The password manager just released an update that fixes this issue and adds a one-time code when you first enable this added security feature.

On top of this, LastPass also got clued into how it needs to revamp its response process, too. The developer wasn’t able to reach the company to let them know about the exploit so he posted it on Medium. But the company assures that they’ve resolved this procedural issue to make sure they get these reports get to them in the future.

Apple issues apology for performance throttling, offers discounted battery replacement service throughout 2018

Apple broke the silence about the issue that iOS 10.2.1 causes performance on older iPhones to slow down, ostensibly to counteract battery degradation. It's an issue that created a lot of confusion, with some pundits claiming that Apple is purposely throttling performance to push users to upgrade to newer devices. Apple issued a statement on its website explaining the issue in detail. The company, who makes most of its profits off the iPhone, is also offering discounted battery replacement services for older iPhones throughout 2018.

Responding to increasing confusion and even lawsuits from disgruntled users, Apple took to posting an open letter on its website.
