Google releases new Pixel Stand wireless charger

Google has an update to its Pixel Stand wireless charger. This second-generation accessory offers charging speeds of up to 23W with "compatible Pixel phones" and up to 15W with other Qi-certified devices. Like the recent OnePlus chargers, the new Pixel Stand gets a "nearly silent built-in fan" to help keep the stand cool even when it's charging at higher speeds.

Phones are still designed to sit in portrait mode on this new Pixel Stand, so it's easier to see notifications as they come in. It retails for $109, and it is listed as "Coming soon" on its product page.

Google introduces Pixel Pass subscription in the US

We've heard about this rumoured Pixel Pass subscription earlier this month, but now Google has unveiled the subscription bundle for its US customers. This allows them to pay for a Pixel 6 phone on a monthly installment basis. They also get access to 200GB of Google One cloud storage, YouTube and YouTube Music Premium, and Google Play Pass.

Pricing starts at US$45 (around CA$56) per month for the Pixel 6 and US$55 (CA$68) for the Pixel 6 Pro. The devices are unlocked and should work with all major US carriers. Subscribers are eligible for an upgrade after two years, and they get an extra year of warranty coverage with this subscription over the standard one-year warranty. The Pixel Pass subscription is available through Google Fi and Google Store. Google Fi subscribers get an additional US$5 off their monthly Fi plan with this subscription bundle.

Google unveils Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro

There isn't much of a surprise design-wise with the Pixel 6 series. We've seen it months before, with Google teasing the devices themselves. But now, we have a better look at the phones, and we know what they can do. Possibly the most important thing is we now know how much they cost.

Google Pixel 6's starting price is $799, while the Pixel 6 Pro starts at $1,179. They will be released in Canada beginning October 28. Both phones run on Google's new Tensor chip, which it claims is comparable to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 in terms of performance. That processor is paired with 8GB of RAM on the Pixel 6 and 12GB on the 6 Pro.
